Article Abstract #2 and #3

“ISO killed the professional photographer”  :   http://www.yourphototips.com/2009/02/24/iso-killed-the-professional-photographer/

This semi-humorous article goes into some detail describing the advances in camera technology (and the decline in price for decent camera equipment) and how this has made things harder for professional photographers. The main point of the article was about how controlling and utilizing light was once the most difficult aspect of photography and what separated the amateurs from the professionals. Today’s DSLR cameras are a lot less picky about lighting and besides- decent lighting kits are also going down in price. The article doesn’t really lament the “death” of the professional photographer so much as acknowledged the flood of new photographers arriving on the scene, photographers who can give the professionals a run for their money.

“Photography inspires music”   :   http://www.npr.org/blogs/pictureshow/2009/10/tomchambers.html

This brief article details NPR’s Project Song, in which recording artists are invited to NPR’s sound studio and told to construct a song in two days. For inspiration, they’re given a handful of photos and words. Some of the results are interesting, and the 9 photos shown in the article range from breath-taking to bizarre. The newest installment was compiled by Chris Walla of Death Cab for Cutie and J. Robbins of Jawbox and Burning Airlines.
