National Geographic’s Photography website is one of the best I’ve ever seen. The NG has a reputation for amazing photographs and using the most talented photographers on the planet. This commitment to quality shows in each photo and section of their site. Along with galleries and (FREE!) wallpapers, there is also a section for photo tips which is a great way for aspiring photographers to glean info from the pros. This site will take you hours, days, maybe even weeks to explore. I’d recommend bookmarking it today!

Dead Water

Caught this one of many on my way home for Thanksgiving. Just had left work and right before I reached my parent’s house the sun was just getting ready to set and I thought it looked really cool with the water tower and the cemetery sign in the foreground and background. Just messed with the exposure and contrast. The sky was almost that blue, but I decided to up it a little.

This was shot at the same time as the one above. I just cropped this in from the bottom and leveled out the photo so it looked straight. Again, played with the contrast and exposure. But, other than that, the sky was actually THAT blue. CRAZY!

The final days of 2009 are winding down and another New Year’s Eve fireworks show will be taking place downtown! I adjusted the levels slightly, brought out the reds in hue/saturation and used the unsharp mask filter.
