Dead Water

November 30, 2009 Leave a comment

Caught this one of many on my way home for Thanksgiving. Just had left work and right before I reached my parent’s house the sun was just getting ready to set and I thought it looked really cool with the water tower and the cemetery sign in the foreground and background. Just messed with the exposure and contrast. The sky was almost that blue, but I decided to up it a little.

This was shot at the same time as the one above. I just cropped this in from the bottom and leveled out the photo so it looked straight. Again, played with the contrast and exposure. But, other than that, the sky was actually THAT blue. CRAZY!

Digital Photography Review

Well, I’m in the market for a new camera. #1 since mine is broken and also #2 we (my brothers/sister and I) are purchasing my mom a new camera for Christmas. I just ran across this website and was a little surprised to find the top selling cameras or the cameras that had the most visits to view them. But, overall I found it a very useful website to look over before deciding to purchase a camera. I am a big fan of Canon cameras, but this website seems to favor Nikon. I guess it’s all just personal preference.

I thought this was a good website to take a look at this time of year. Since the semester is coming to a close we all need to start or should start thinking about our final projects. I thought this would help. This website contains several examples of photo essays, some have explanations while some are just the photo and that alone tells the story. They were pretty powerful and meaningful, interesting to look at. Hopefully they can help you out and give you some ideas. They did me. 🙂

30,000 feet.

November 23, 2009 2 comments

Originally I had named this photo, “New Heights,” but changed the name to 30,000 feet. I just thought it was more appropriate. I shot this photo a few years back when I flew for the first time. It was pretty amazing! Although, I only traveled from Lincoln to Denver I saw some pretty crazy things on the 45 minute flight. It was amazing the pictures that I caught looking thruogh a plane window. I just boosted the colors in the photo to bring out the sections of land a little bit, cropped it a little from the bottom, but that was about it. I really like this photo. I think it shows a completely different side to the world, something that not every person sees everyday. 🙂

Smashing Magazine

This magazine is pretty crazy. I had never heard of it before now, but the way I discovered it was because of the 50 Incredible Photography Techniques and Tutorials. I just quickly glanced over this and discovered the first one which is about high-speed photography and it shows several examples and then a tutorial on how to achieve these various techniques. Some other ones include how to choose a black and white subject, blurred motion, tilt-shift photography (which I had never heard of) and several others. I highly recommend this website if you have time to check it out. It’s incredible some of the techniques that are used.

Okay, so I may be biased, but I love her work. She has photographed a lot of people that I know around my hometown, but I just love everything she does, and most of it is from the comfort of her own home. She has unique angles and color composition that she uses with each subject and it’s remarkable. Her website could use a little work, but other than that, I really like her work. Her logo is really creative too, it could maybe be a little smaller, but that may happen as she grows more popular.
