Barn and Bins

BarnBins

This photo was taken last week while was out with my brother on the harvest. I just played with the saturation and contrast… brightened a few colors and actually flipped the photo. I thought it looked better this way rather than the opposite.

http://tutorialblog.org/10-websites-with-great-photography/

This website contains links to the top 10 photography websites. Meaning, these are the top 10 websites that have great photography. They are company websites that have great photography such as Nike and cases for i-products. The advertisements contain great photography and make you look at the product in a different light. My favorite one was Alberto Oviedo, the website was catchy and easy to use. It was a well-thought website that was easy to navigate through. There are several different categories of photography, so you could never get bored looking at the same type of subject. Check it out!

Lashing Waived for Female Journalist in Saudi Sex Scandal

This article is about a female Saudi journalist who is accused of being a part of a sex scandal that violates the Saudi Arabian law and religion. I can’t even believe the laws and repercussions that they subject their citizens to after being involved in something such as this. If you read the article they describe the punishment that one receives for having sex outside of marriage. It’s horrific! Also, I can’t help but wonder if this would have been newsworthy if she wouldn’t have been a journalist. Do you think that because she was a part of the media that her story got more attention than normal?

Website Review: PhotoShop Disasters

October 26, 2009 Leave a comment

Photobucket
http://photoshopdisasters.blogspot.com/

PhotoShop Disasters is a hilarious blog that collects and rips apart ads with embarrassing photoshop effects. Anything is fair game; models with freakish (and obviously manipulated) body proportions, poor copy/paste choices (as in the image above) and outright errors (such as placing an extra person into a group photo but forgetting one of their body parts in the process).

One of the site’s strongest points is its witty writing. Most of the pictures are amusing in their own right, but the commentary of the web master (and sometimes the comments of visitors) really turns this blog into something else. My only criticism is that it doesn’t seem to be updated frequently enough.

Enthusiastic shutterbug immortalizes Nikon on his forearm

Website: http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/21/enthusiastic-shutterbug-immortalizes-nikon-on-his-forearm

Not much to read on this page, the images pretty much say it all. A longtime Nikon user has immortalized his D3X on his arm. According to his email to Nikon, “since using a Nikon product, I am convinced that I will never use anything else…EVER AGAIN.”
The pictures aren’t the best quality, but hopefully that guy didn’t pay very much for the tattoo.

Kids and photography (or, Why my son is an artistic genius …)

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/parenting/detail?entry_id=49433

What happens when you give a 4-year-old a camera? Mostly a bunch of blurry photos with heads and limbs chopped off. Peter Hartlaub, a pop culture critic at the San Francisco Chronicle, takes a lighthearted approach to his son’s photographic genius. My favorite line: “my son makes Annie Leibovitz look like a drunk tourist with a Kodak Funsaver.”

Polaroid – Not quite dead?

While browsing on the NY Times site, I found this great article about lovers of Polaroid film and their efforts to revive the process, which was discontinued by the company last year.

Other Options to PS

Although PhotoShop is one of the best programs out there – whew! the cost! I found a great website that lists 11 of the top free editing programs out there (includes Gimp, which we’ve talked about in class) along with many others! At the end of the list is another group of online editing programs. Haven’t had a chance to check them all out yet, but this should be a great reference for those of us looking for some cheap – or free – alternatives to the big dog! Happy editing!

Loneliest Number

This image is made from a series of 2 images that I stitched together in PS. I also upped the contrast, saturation and brightness. I especially love the starkness of the barn in the middle of the field. Enjoy!

This site really caught my interest because of the underwater photography.  The extra element that the water adds to the photo adds texture and beauty.  A lot of his work is for clients that include everything from high fashion to Flintsons vitamins.   I wasn’t really impressed with his personal collection in his portfolio, but I found the fashion shot to be extraordinary.

I liked this article because it explains basic mistakes that are made when photographing the moon.  Since it’s Harvest Moon season this site could help you get that perfect shot.
